Training Treats
I’ve used a lot of different kinds of training treats over the years. The ones I like the best are Zukes peanut butter or chicken flavored ones. They are small. About the size of your pinky nail and you can even break them in half because they are soft chews. That way your dog doesn’t fill up on them. You just want an incentive not another meal. Here is the link for them on Chewy.com
My new puppy Bear practically trained overnight with these treats. I took him outside about a week or so after his last set of shots and sat with him until he peed and I just practically did a ticker tape parade for him and gave him the treats. He was thrilled!! I sat there for a while longer until he did it again. This can take a long time but if you time it to right after they eat a meal or get up from a nap they’re more likely to go potty for you. So pay close attention and take them outside right after these two events and you’ll catch them needed to go potty. Once they do just treat them. I only had to do this a handful of times and Bear had it down. He would pee for me even if it was only a few dribbles just to get the treat. It was funny too because he would split up his #2 into TWO potty treats he’s that smart!! He would go a little run over for a treat then go back and finish and come back for another treat. I couldn’t stop giggling when I saw him do this. These pups are SMART!!
It had been a long time since I trained a puppy myself, probably since Tank and Harley 19 years ago. Tank and Harley trained Mugsy for me. She caught on overnight following them so she was very easy. Miss Ruby, my 12 year old uses an indoor potty pad and has been doing that for about a year. She is at risk for pneumonia so I made an indoor potty area for her. I keep it clean with doggie bags, washed towels and a super tarp that I folded over in a quarter. She’s old and fragile so it works for us. whatever you choose to do for your bulldogs treats are always something they will love. You can pretty much teach them anything with a treat incentive. Here’s a picture of Bear snuggling with Ruby. She’s the fawn one in the back. Can you believe he’s only 8 months old?
