Will You Be My Valentine?

Valentines Day is about love. All kinds of love. My mom had a little neurotic poodle named Piper that she absolutely adored and my sister gave her heart to a long hair dachshund named Beans. Then there’s me. I have an English Bulldog named Bear that is the light of my life. He chews cords, bowls over my grandson with his 55 pounds of puppy playfulness and he slides into the kitchen when it’s time for dinner. Just the words “Are you hungry” make him start dancing and hopping around. I’ve always loved dogs. From the time I was old enough to ask for something from my parents I begged for a dog. My father was in the military and we lived overseas so it wasn’t an easy prospect to have a dog because of the travel and keeping them safe crossing oceans but there it was. My love for animals was deep seeded and always has been.

I’ve had romantic love in my life too with all the chocolates, flowers and cards but for me? My bulldogs have been front and center when it comes to love in my life. All animals really. I’ve had pot belly pigs, rabbits, iguanas, bearded dragons, a fish named Jaws who absolutely loved me and grew to be so big I had to re-home him to a 500 gallon aquarium. Jaws might have been a koi, jury is still out on that one. I got him at a carnival where they used to give out goldfish in plastic bags as prizes. All living things are incredible.

When I think of my bulldogs I smile because they ask so little but give so much. They add the sprinkles on the cup cake of life. So happy Valentines Day to all you bulldog lovers out there, give those smooshy little faces kisses and hugs. They deserve it!
