Summer and Fireworks Safety
Summer Fun and Fourth of July Fireworks Safety...
Bulldogs are more sensitive to heat becasue of their short little noses and compact bodies. Hot weather can get dangerous very fast! Please keep limit their outdoor time during the peak hot hours of the day. I would only let Tank and Harley play outside or go for short walks in the cool of the morning or evening. During the heat of the day when they went outside it was just for a few minutes to go potty. Bulldogs can literally overheat and die in minutes. Since bulldogs are indoor dogs they live in "San Diego weather with the AC set at 70 degrees. That's perfect for them!
We used to take Tank and Harley to fireworks displays on the 4th of July and they loved them! All dogs are different because our other bulldog Mugsy hated the popping of fireworks! Any loud noise was so scary to her. She would get so stressed so we left her home with the TV on. She got to snuggle in my bed and watch Beauty and the Beast while we were gone.
If your bulldog is a natural swimmer please use a life jacket fitted to them. The one that looks super cool to me are the jackets with a handle on top so you can grab them quickly if they get into trouble and they have a chin float in front so they can rest their head. Always remember the seven second rule. Place the back of your hand on the pavement. If you cannot hold it there for 7 seconds, it's way too hot for your dog's paws.
Car safety is common sense but if our dogs were not going wherever we were at the end of the car ride, they stayed HOME. Never ever were they left in a car alone. Not only are they in danger of being stolen (people know what they are worth) but heat can build up so fast they will die in minutes. Our bulldogs love to go where we go but they only get to do that when we can take them in with us at the store or wherever we are going.
Portable water bottles for your bulldog are so necessary in the heat. Harley loved a spray bottle but these cool water bottles for dogs are handy too...
