Regular Checkups

Part of loving your new puppy is taking them to the vet for their follow up treatments and regular checkups. Once you’ve spent time with them you know them better than anyone else does so you know if something is “off” or they are acting unusual. Sometimes issues can resolve themselves and sometimes you need a little help. whether it’s allergies, loose stool, feet chewing or sudden aggression it might be time to see the vet.

Puppies come to you with shots and worming treatments from their breeder but they always need additional shots and worming treatments to make sure they are fully vaccinated and protected from everything that could be a potential threat to their health. it’s especially important to follow the schedule you have from your vet and make sure they go in on time for these treatments. If you have other pets in the house they depend on you doing this too so they stay healthy and don’t pick up a virus or problem from the new family addition.

Puppies can have their rabies vaccinations at four months and it’s usually given for one year. After a year they can have the three year booster. I just got that done for Bear, the puppy I adopted in March of 2025. He got his bordetella treatment too that protects him from kennel cough. This is a yearly treatment and especially important for older dogs because kennel cough or a dog cold can be fatal to older pups. They can sometimes have compromised immune systems that used to be ready to fight off a serious infection but are now older and more delicate so protecting them with this kennel cough treatment can save their lives if they get exposed.

Some people like to add new puppies to the family when their other dog is getting older and it can expose the older pet to contagious puppy issues but keeping the new puppy up to date on shots, worming treatments and giving puppy their own potty area for a while, will help the older dog stay safe until baby is more mature and fully protected.

I’m always available to talk if anyone has an issue I can help with. I’m not a vet but I’ve been through a lot in the years I’ve owned these beautiful dogs myself. There are things I’ve done with my bulldogs that have worked for me and I’m always willing to share that with anyone who needs help with a problem they’re having. ALWAYS consult your vet too. You don’t have to have purchased a dog from me to talk to me about anything from behavior issues to food recommendations. I could talk “bulldog” all day! LOL.

Show your love by taking your baby in for regular checkups and keeping them safe from the inside out!
